Stroud's Civil War News Emporium is pleased to have come into the possession of this hand-colored photograph of a veteran. We are fairly confident that we can narrow down the identity of this soldier to one of four individuals. The image was taken by "Starbird, Photographer" in Augusta, Maine. It would have been highly unlikely for anyone from a non-Maine regiment to have journeyed there for their photographic sitting. Written on the back of the photograph is the name "E. Bradbury." Only four men of that name served in Maine regiments. Two were presumably related as they were mustered on the same date into the same company of the Maine Twenty-Seventh Infantry--likely father and son, as one was eighteen years older than the other.

Enlisted & Mustered as a Sergeant on September 20, 1864
Discharged for disability on June 10, 1865.
