Private Anthony Beyer

Fifth Iowa Volunteer Cavalry

Anthony Beyer was a German immigrant who enlisted at the age of nineteen in Company E of the Fifth Iowa Volunteer Cavalry. He served for the duration of the war, reenlisting as a veteran on January 1, 1864. Beyer kept his oath and remained with his comrades until they mustered out on August 11, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.

A photograph including Beyer is available here at the Fifth Iowa regimental website. It portrays this proud veteran along with other members of Company E who gathered for a GAR Reunion following the war.
