Private George Hein

Fifth Iowa Volunteer Cavalry

The Official Roster does not indicate what prevented George Hein from enlisted in the Union army at the outset of the war. Perhaps it was due to family obligations. At any rate, Hein did enlist in the Consolidated Fifth Iowa Cavalry on October 12, 1864. He served with the regiment for the duration of the war, mustering out on August 11, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.
