Private John Corpstein

Fifth Iowa Volunteer Cavalry

John Corpstein (whose name was incorrectly spelled "Corpstine" in the initial Roster) was nineteen when he enlisted on February 27, 1864 in Company E of the Fifth Iowa Cavalry. Too young to sign up at the beginning of the war, he eagerly enlisted to join his neighbors in the regiment. Corpstein served with the Fifth Iowa until the unit was mustered out on August 11, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee, at the close of the war.
