Private Obadiah Scott

Fifth Iowa Volunteer Cavalry

Obadiah Scott was one of the older men who enlisted in the Fifth Iowa Volunteer Cavalry in the fall of 1861. He was thirty-three when he joined Company C. For reasons not recorded in the Official Roster, on November 15, 1861. When the regiment completed its initial enlistment, he signed on to remain for the duration of the war.

Scott remained with the regiment until it mustered out in August of 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee. The May 24, 1889 issue of the Atwood Citizen lists his name as one of the "soldiers of the War of the Rebellion residing" in Rawlins County, Kansas at that time.
