He was promoted to Eighth Corporal on June 16, 1862, Seventh Corporal on June 22, 1862, Sixth Corporal on June 23, 1862 and Fifth Corporal on June 25, 1862. Four promotions in nine days!

He was promoted to First Lieutenant on July 6, 1865. Although he was never mustered in the rank, he was promoted to Captain on August 3, 1865. Drummond mustered out several days ahead of the bulk of the regiment on August 8, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.

The Fifth Iowa Cavalry site is deeply indebted to Michael Breeling for sharing the civil war image of Drummond, for which he maintains the copyright.
