Saddler Henry Busse

Fifth Iowa Volunteer Cavalry

Henry W. Busse enlisted at the age of twenty-one. Like many other men who made up the Minnesota companies destined to help constitute the Fifth Iowa Cavalry, Busse was a German immigrant.

Although he enlisted as a private trooper on October 16, 1861, in the summer of 1863 he was promoted to saddler. On February 25, 1864, he was transferred with his fellow Minnesotans back to their home state. He served in the Second Minnesota Cavalry until of 1864.
