Fifth Iowa Volunteer Cavalry Home Page Battles in which the Fifth Iowa Cavalry Fought

The following is a chronological listing of the casualties suffered by the Fifth Iowa throughout the war. In each engagement, there was an opportunity for the regiment to experience several different forms of personnel loss. Men could be killed outright (KIA), wounded (WIA - sometimes "mortally wounded"), they could be listed as missing if their fate was undetermined, or they could be captured by the enemy (POW). The table below lists the numbers of troops killed, wounded and captured during the course of the regiment's four years of combat service.
